Support Bornwear's Small Team and Innovative Research and Development!

Hi, I'm Mac, a trans man and founder of Bornwear. My journey has been deeply personal and driven by a desire to create high-quality, affordable gender-affirming prosthetics. With a background in mechanical engineering and a passion for helping my community, I started Bornwear with the goal of making a real difference in a time when it is needed most.

When I first launched Bornwear, in August of 2023, your support helped us acquire essential equipment to begin our work. Since then, we've made significant strides in developing a foundation for affordable and functional prosthetics. However, our mission is far from complete. We are now entering a crucial phase where we need to focus on research and development to push the boundaries of what's possible in prosthetic design and other products the trans community needs.

What We're Working On:

Researching Advanced Materials: In the summer of 2024, we hired a talented biomedical engineering intern who spent 6 months researching cutting-edge materials currently used for cisgender men with erectile dysfunction. Our goal is to adapt these materials for prosthetics, creating innovative designs that address unique needs within the trans community. This groundbreaking work aims to introduce a new type of prosthetic that has never been seen before, offering improved functionality and comfort.

Develop New Products: We are always working on something new, usually multiple new products! Since our launch, we have released an updated version of our first generation packer that has improved realism and sizing. We have also since launched our first generation of a pack & play, “The Stede”. We continue to work on future generations of these products, making innovative improvements to their design and function. We are also working on developing an STP (stand-to-pee), an all-in-one prosthetic, and packing gear to secure prosthetics in place. Bornwear is more than prosthetics, we aim to provide all sorts of resources and products for the transgender community. This includes scar care salves, an all-natural prosthetic dusting powder, and more! We also want to expand our services to the trans fem community in the future!

Expanding Our Team: To keep up with the growing demand and to enhance our operations, we want to hire additional employees. This includes skilled individuals to help with prosthetic design and production and other essential tasks, like marketing, accounting, and more. By building a stronger team, we aim to improve our operational efficiency and outreach.

Keeping Prosthetics Affordable: We are committed to ensuring our prosthetics remain affordable and therefore accessible to all. Body-safe prosthetics can range starting from $50 for a “packer” to $200 for a multi-use prosthetic, with some being $500 or more especially if customizable. At Bornwear, our customizable packers are $35 and our multi-use prosthetics start at $70. Your contributions are essential to support our efforts to keep prices low while maintaining high-quality standards. We can keep these prices low because Mac does not account for his time researching and developing products, he is driven by passion and not money.

Supporting Living Wages: At Bornwear, we prioritize fair compensation for our team. Bornwear itself makes little to no profit, ensuring that our employees earn a living wage. We currently only have two employees including Mac, where Mac is the only one who produces and ships orders and researches and develops new products. Mac still works another full-time job and so he does not pay himself for his time at Bornwear, but he hopes to as we expand our product catalog. This is to ensure Bornwear has the funds for new equipment or materials for developing and testing new products, as well as pay any other employees a living wage. Your support helps us sustain this model, allowing us to focus on our mission without compromising our values.

Why Your Support Matters:

Bornwear is dedicated to providing innovative solutions and valuable resources to the trans community. By supporting our research and development efforts, you help us bring groundbreaking prosthetic designs to those who need them most. Your donations also enable us to maintain affordability and ensure fair wages for our team.

We are incredibly grateful for the support we've received so far and excited about the future of Bornwear. Every contribution, no matter the size, makes a significant impact. Together, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of many trans individuals.

Thank you for your continued support and belief in our mission.

With heartfelt gratitude, Mac and the Bornwear Team
